You're the 2nd one to tell me that. No, it's not.

Eh, any passenger car can do that.

There have been times that I DREAM that I could've done that.... But I drive a 328i.

SUVs get a lot of hate, but I still love me a good SUV!!

You probably could've done that anyways.

I used to do this every opportunity I could get. Now I drive a boring econobox though, so I try to park inconspicuously.

There's clearly a boring econobox exploiting the unused space in that photo... You just have to be more careful.

I guess I should clarify that the reason I drive a boring econobox is because adult things have become important to me and I have a fiance and kid, possibly breaking my car because I'm really just a very large six year old kid is no longer something I have time or money for :(

Haha understandable. That's why I've budgeted for two vehicles. One "I'm a serious, responsible adult" daily driver, the other my "I'm really just a very large six year old" toy. If the toy gets broken, I can still get to work on weekdays.

I'm hoping to be there someday, unfortunately the dream of starting my own business is using up my "behave like a child" spare money for the immediate future. I was actually lucky enough to get a second car for the household recently, unfortunately it was an 01 Elantra to go with my 01 Camry (both green/blue-ish, imagine that). I've had some opportunities before, but I won't settle with FWD for a toy, and the only RWD I've ever owned that wasn't a pickup truck I had to sell two weeks after I got it because my DD died and I needed a car that didn't need work to DD.

Someday though... someday the wife will have an econobox and there will be an MX-5 sitting in my driveway with a trunk full of small cones for autocross practice. :'(

What's not practical about an MX-5? I've daily-ed one before. As long as the wife has a car that can handle kid-duty, you should be able to drive whatever.

Early ones are so easy to work on, you can fix whatever you break on your lunch break (pro tip, I've actually done that before).

I feel you on the business front. I own 20% of a business in Arkansas haha a good amount of my income goes into it.

Both of the vehicles I currently own were given to me for free (thanks to my grandparents and parents). Assuming one of these vehicles lasts awhile hopefully an MX-5 is my next vehicle because even though my reasoning behind getting it is "because, racecar" it is a fairly practical vehicle all things considered (which, I believe, is why it is always the answer). It works because it is so popular, I figure both regular and aftermarket parts are fairly reasonably priced, so between regular maintenance and small upgrades I'm not spending too much.

NA MX-5's are incredibly cheap to buy / own, if you're not looking for a beauty queen.

I spent $3500 on mine, but got it with all the parts for a rebuild, matching hardtop (with insulated headliner, and rear window defogger). It also had a brand new top with defogged glass rear window, a whole extra interior, two sets of wheels, and K Sport coilovers. Interior and exterior were pretty good (fenders were poorly rolled, but it wasn't too hard to fix).

Most of the MX-5's at my house were bought for between $500 and $2500. We've got about 16 at the house, plus all the parts to rebuild any of them.

I am not looking for a beauty queen, so I'm hoping that when I have the money I can find one for sub $2k. Unfortunately I'm in a position right now where I have almost zero dollars to spare, so all of my car dreams are on the sidelines. I will own one someday though, it is one of the few things I need to do before I die.

Well, MX-5's are incredibly practical. 30ish MPG on the freeway, they can seat 7*, and can handle trips to IKEA quite well!

*it was not very comfortable, however.

Being 6'2" and way too fat it could seat between 3-4 people at the most, or my entire family and almost no groceries :(

We actually drove a circle around the parking lot... I'm somewhere in the passenger seat.

Everyone in there is between 5'8" and 6'1", 130lbs to 180lbs. Top was up, trunk was empty.
